Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.] 1 THE BESTOWAL from on high [of this revelation] issues from the Most Gracious, the Dispenser of Grace: 2 A Scripture whereof the verses are expounded, a Lecture in Arabic for people who have knowledge, 3 It contains glad news and warnings (for the people), but most of them have ignored it and do not listen. 4 And they say, "Our hearts are within coverings from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a partition, so work; indeed, we are working." 5 Say, O [Muhammad], "I am only a man like you to whom it has been revealed that your god is but one God; so take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness." And woe to those who associate others with Allah - 6 Who give not the poor-due, and who are disbelievers in the Hereafter. 7 Verily those who believe and work righteous works - unto them shall be a hire unceasing. 8
