The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
