The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 near which is Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
