The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clustered plantains, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water poured out 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
