He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
