The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 thy robes purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
