He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
