The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
