Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And linen spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
