Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
