Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
