The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And affirms goodness, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
