The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ They ask you about the spoils of war. Say, "They belong to God and His Messenger. So fear God, and set things right among yourselves, and obey God and His Messenger, if you are true believers: 1 The true believers are those who, when Allah's name is mentioned, their hearts quake, and when His verses are recited to them their faith grows, and who put their trust in their Lord; 2 who establish Prayer and spend out of what We have provided them. 3 Such are the true believers. Their reward from their Lord will be high ranks, forgiveness, and a generous provision. 4 As thy Lord brought thee forth from thy house with the truth, and a part of the believers were averse to it, 5 Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on. 6 And when God promised you one of the two parties should be yours, and you were wishing that the one not accoutred should be yours; but God was desiring to verify the truth by His words, and to cut off the unbelievers to the last remnant, 7 that He might prove the truth to be true and the false to be false, however averse the evil-doers might be to it. 8 When you prayed to your Lord for help, He answered, "I am sending to your aid a thousand angels in succession." 9 And Allah made not this save as a glad tidings, and that your hearts might thereby be set at rest; and succour cometh not but from Allah. Verily Allah is Mighty, Wise. 10
