The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
