Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
