۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
