۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
