And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Do not betray me 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
