The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
