And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Why do you not reflect? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 But as for you, and that you worship, 161 can lure away from God any 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 [The angels say], "Every single one of us has his place assigned: 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 They used to say before: 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
