And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay. 15 They say, 'Our Lord, hasten to us our share before the Day of Reckoning.' 16 (O Prophet), bear with patience what they say, and call to mind Our servant David, who was endowed with great strength and who constantly turned (to Allah). 17 With him We had subjected the mountains that they join him in celebrating Allah's glory, evening and morning, 18 And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah). 19 And We made his dominion strong and vouchsafed him wisdom and decisive speech. 20 ۞ Have you heard the story of the disputants who entered his chamber by climbing over the wall? 21 When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them? They said, "Fear not. [We are] two adversaries, one of whom has wronged the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed [it] and guide us to the sound path. 22 "This man is my brother: He has nine and ninety ewes, and I have (but) one: Yet he says, 'commit her to my care,' and is (moreover) harsh to me in speech." 23 David said, "He has certainly wronged you by demanding that your ewe be added to his ewes! Thus many partners wrong one another -- [all] save those who believe [in God] and do righteous deeds: but how few are they!" And [suddenly] David understood that We were only putting him to the test, and so he asked his Lord to forgive him his sins; he fell to his knees, and turned to Him in repentance. ۩ 24 We forgave him his sins. His reward will be nearness to Us, a good place to return to. 25 (We said): 'David, We have made you a caliph in the earth. Judge with justice among people and do not yield to your own preference in case it should lead you from the Path of Allah. Surely, a terrible punishment awaits those who stray from the Path of Allah, because they forget the Day of Reckoning' 26
