Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
