It was We Who created man, and We know what dark suggestions his soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein. 16 When the two (angels) who keep the account, one sitting on the right, one on the left, take it down, 17 He utters not a word, but there is a vigilant watcher at hand. 18 The palsy of death will surely come. This is what you wished to avert. 19 And the trumpet will be blown: this is the Day of the Threatening. 20 And every soul shall come, and with it a driver and a witness. 21 [and will be told:] "Indeed, unmindful hast thou been of this [Day of Judgment]; but now We have lifted from thee thy veil, and sharp is thy sight today!" 22 And his comrade shall say, 'This is what I have, made ready.' 23 (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate, 24 hinderer of good, transgressor, causing others to doubt, 25 who has set up with Allah another god. Indeed, you two, cast him into the terrible punishment' 26 ۞ His [devil] companion will say, "Our Lord, I did not make him transgress, but he [himself] was in extreme error." 27 God will say, "Do not quarrel in My presence. I gave you the warning beforehand 28 The sentence that cometh from Me cannot be changed, and I am in no wise a tyrant unto the slaves. 29
