The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
