The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The All-merciful 1 Bestowed the Qur'an, 2 He hath created man. 3 He has imparted unto him articulate thought and speech. 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning, 5 [before Him] prostrate themselves the stars and the trees. 6 And the heaven He has raised high, and He has set up the Balance. 7 That ye exceed not the measure, 8 And observe the weight with equity, and make not deficient the balance. 9 And the earth He has put for the creatures. 10 On it are fruits and palm-trees with sheathed clusters [of dates], 11 Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 13 He created the human from clay, like earthenware 14 whereas the invisible beings He has created out of a confusing flame of fire. 15 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 16 Lord of the two Easts, and Lord of the two Wests! 17 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 18 He has set the two oceans in motion, converging together. 19 In-between the twain is a barrier which they pass not. 20 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -- 21 Pearls and coral-stone come forth from them. 22 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 23 And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains: 24 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 25
