The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right. 38
