The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but We see it near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
