The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
