He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
