He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
