Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
