The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
