The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
