The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
