The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
