The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
