Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book, 2 We have made it an Arabic reading text so that perhaps you may understand. 3 It is inscribed in the original Book (of Books) with Us, sublime, dispenser of (all) laws. 4 Should We divert this Good Counsel from you because you are a people immersed in extravagance? 5 And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples, 6 And never came there unto them a prophet but they used to mock him. 7 So We destroyed far more powerful (nations) than they. The example of earlier people is there. 8 If you ask them: "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they will answer: "The Mighty and All-knowing created them," 9 He Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and made in it ways for you that you may go aright; 10 And He Who sends down water from the cloud according to a measure, then We raise to life thereby a dead country, even thus shall you be brought forth; 11 and who created the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you ships and cattle such as you ride, 12 So that when you sit astride of them and think of the bounties of your Lord, you may say: "All glory to Him who subjugated these for us. We were incapable of doing so. 13 And to our Lord we shall surely return." 14 And they assign to Him a part of His servants; man, to be sure, is clearly ungrateful. 15
