Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
