In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
