Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
