He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 You neglect. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
