He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
