The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Merciful One 1 Hath taught the Qur'an. 2 He created man. 3 He has imparted unto him articulate thought and speech. 4 The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed; 5 And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration. 6 He raised the heavens and set up everything in balance, 7 so that you [too, O men,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right]: 8 And observe correct measure, weigh with justice, and not cheat the balance. 9 He set down the earth for the creation. 10 In which are fruits, and covered dates. 11 the grain in the blade; and aromatic herbs. 12 Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? 13 He has created man from dry, rotten clay like the potter's, 14 and He created the jinn from smokeless fire. 15 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 16 Lord of the two easts and of the two wests is He. 17 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 18 He hath loosed the two seas. They meet. 19 and yet there is a barrier between them which they may not overstep. 20 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 21 There come forth from the twain the pearl and the coral. 22 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 23 Also, His are the ships that run, raised up like mountains upon the sea. 24 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 25
