The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
