So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad SAW): "Are there (only) daughters for your Lord and sons for them?" 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 We glorify God." 166 AND, INDEED, they [who deny the truth] have always been wont to say, 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
