۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
