1/2 Hizb 33
< random >
۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
