And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
