And when your Lord called to Moses, saying: 'Go to the harmdoing nation, 10 the people of Pharaoh; will they not be godfearing?' 11 He said: "My Lord! Verily, I fear that they will belie me, 12 My breast is constricted and my tongue is not fluent, so endow Messengership on Aaron. 13 Moreover, they keep a grave charge [pending] against me, and I fear that they will slay me." 14 Said He: "Not so, indeed! Go forth, then, both of you, with Our messages: verily, We shall be with you, listening [to your call]! 15 Go, then, to Pharaoh and say to him: 'The Lord of the Universe has sent us 16 Send with us the Children of Isra'il? 17 The Pharaoh said, "Did we not bring you up in our home as an infant and did you not live with us for many years 18 Yet you committed the deed you did, surely you are one of the ingrates." 19 Musa (Moses) said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant (as regards my Lord and His Message). 20 So I ran away from you out of fear. But my Lord has given me wisdom, and made me an apostle. 21 And [as for] that favour of which thou so tauntingly remindest me - [was it not] due to thy having enslaved the children of Israel?" 22 Pharaoh said, 'And what is the Lord of all Being?' 23 He said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between, if ye seek to be convinced. 24 Pharaoh said to those around him: "Do you hear (what he says)?" 25 Musa (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers!" 26 (Pharaoh) said: "Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!" 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 Fir'awn said: if thou wilt take a god other than me, I shall surely place thee among the prisoners. 29 He said, 'What, even though I brought thee something so manifest?' 30 Fir'awn said: forth with it then, if thou art of the truth-tellers. 31 So (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)! 32 and he drew forth his hand - and lo! it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
