And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
