The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness those who stand arrayed in rows, 1 and the scarers scaring 2 By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Quran from Allah to mankind [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]. 3 Indeed your God is surely only One. 4 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them – and the Lord of the sun’s rising points. 5 We have adorned the lower heaven with the adornment of the planets, 6 (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits, 7 They cannot listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side. 8 and are repelled. Theirs is an unceasing chastisement. 9 Except those who eavesdrop and are pursued by a shooting flame. 10 Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay! 11 No wonder you are surprised as they laugh with scorn. 12 And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,- 13 and when they see a miracle, they mock 14 And they say: This is nothing but clear magic: 15 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected. 16 "And also our fathers of old?" 17 You say: "Yes; and you will be lowly made." 18 So it shall only be a single cry, when lo! they shall see. 19 And they shall say: O woe to us! this is the day of requital. 20 'This is the Day of Decision, even that you cried lies to. 21
